Newstar Ventures
Is an internationally oriented investment fund, focused on providing direct investments, advisory, and independent analytical capabilities to small-medium sized companies on a global basis.
John Chiplin, Ph.D.
Founder and Managing Director, Dr. John Chiplin, originally created Newstar Ventures to effectively bridge the gap between funding new ventures at the early stage of conception and recognizing that the appetite for more main stream venture capital is at a later stage of company development.
John's background is in the life science and technology industries, both from an operational and investment perspective. Most recently he was founding CEO of Arana Therapeutics, a new generation Antibody developer and a board member of Domantis, Inc. - prior to the acquisition of the companies by Cephalon and GSK respectively. Immediately prior to running Arana, Dr. Chiplin was head of the ITI Life Sciences investment fund in the UK. Dr. Chiplin's Pharmacy and Doctoral degrees are from the University of Nottingham, UK, and he currently serves on the Boards/acts as an advisor to a number of international public/private companies, banks, and venture capital funds.
Newstar Ventures has financed companies that have been acquired by major corporations such as GSK, Cephalon, British Telecom, and Corning.
The fund has now broadened its activities to include advisory/partnering and independent analytical capabilities as well as to continue to invest in public and private companies.
